So, there’s still time to plan your vacation!

During Holy Week, Cancun becomes one of the top vacation spots for families. It combines the best of both worlds: dreamy beaches and rich cultural traditions, making it ideal for both national and international travelers.
How to Make the Most of Holy Week in Cancun 2025
Cancun offers a wide variety of activities for families, friends, solo travelers, and even kids. And since you’re in a Caribbean paradise, whatever you choose to do here will feel just right and turn into an unforgettable memory. Here’s a guide to help you make the most of your stay:
1.- Enjoy the most beautiful beaches
Did you know that the sea in Cancun is crystal clear and the sand is pure white?
That’s what surprises most visitors when they arrive. The combination of turquoise water, golden sun, and soft sand is simply perfect.
Here are some of the best beaches in Cancun to enjoy during Holy Week:
- Playa las Perlas
Located at the entrance of the Hotel Zone and just minutes from downtown Cancun, Playa Las Perlas is the perfect spot to visit. Its calm waves and dedicated children’s area make it ideal for families, especially those traveling with young kids.
- Playa Chacmool
This beach is right in the heart of the Hotel Zone, just minutes away from the most popular nightclubs and bars.
Playa Chacmool is considered one of the most beautiful and cleanest beaches in Cancun. That’s why many people choose it for a fun day with friends or family.
During Holy Week, it’s likely to be one of the busiest beaches, so we recommend arriving early to secure a good spot.
- Playa coral
If you’re looking for a relaxing day away from the crowds, Playa Coral is a great choice. It’s located at the very end of the Hotel Zone, around kilometer 25.
Love pets? You’ll love this beach! Playa Coral is pet-friendly and open to the public. It’s one of the least crowded beaches because not many people know about it.
The waves are moderate, the water is a vibrant turquoise, and the sand is soft and white—perfect for the whole family, including your furry best friend.
- Playa Ballenas
Another lesser-known beach is Playa Ballenas, making it perfect for Holy Week vacations in Cancun.
Just because it’s not as busy with tourists doesn’t mean it’s not beautiful. If you’re looking to avoid the big crowds that come with Holy Week, this beach might be the peaceful escape you’re looking for.
2.- The best water activities for everyone
During this season, you can take advantage of the warm weather to enjoy activities like snorkeling, paddleboarding, catamaran rides, or jet skiing.
If you’re looking for something more family-friendly, we recommend visiting the Xcaret parks such as Xenses, Xplor, Xel-Há, and of course, Xcaret itself.
3.- Enjoy delicious dishes
One of the best things about Cancun is that it’s a multicultural destination, so you’ll find a wide variety of dishes from around the world.
However, if you want to follow the Holy Week tradition of avoiding red meat, you’ll still find plenty of delicious seafood options like ceviche, grilled fish, and refreshing seafood cocktails.
Seafood paired with an ice-cold beer or a piña colada… Mmm! It’s a true delight.
4.- Enjoy the nightlife in the Hotel Zone!
Everything becomes even more spectacular once the sun sets and night falls in Cancun. The nightlife lights up in the heart of the Hotel Zone, where you’ll find the best bars and clubs to party until 3:00 a.m.
The top nightclubs you must check out are:
- Coco Bongo
- Mandala Nightclub
- The City
- D’Cave
- Palazzo Cancun
- H Roof
How to get to Cancun from the Cancun Airport?
There are several transportation options to get to Cancun from the Hotel Zone. For example, you can book a private transfer, rent a vehicle, or take an ADO bus.
Renting a vehicle allows you to move around at your own pace and go anywhere in the city, but keep in mind that during Holy Week, it may be difficult to find parking.
Recently, ADO created a new route from Cancun Airport to the Hotel Zone. However, it only stops at Plaza La Fiesta, located at kilometer 9 on Boulevard Kukulkan. If your hotel is located in the first few kilometers, you will need to take a bus from Route 1 or 2.
Private transportation is exclusively for you and your family. This means you won’t be sharing your ride with strangers, and you will go directly to your hotel, stress-free.
Tips for traveling to Cancun during the Holy Week:
1. Book your accommodation in advance
Cancun is a very popular destination, especially during high season (Holy Week, summer, December). It’s recommended to book hotels, Airbnbs, or resorts several weeks in advance to ensure availability and better prices.
2. Choose private transportation from the airport
Avoid long lines and inflated taxi fares. Hiring a private transfer from the airport ensures comfort, punctuality, and safety, especially if you’re traveling in a group or with children.
3. Protect yourself from the sun
The sun in Cancun is intense year-round. Make sure to bring:
- Biodegradable sunscreen
- Sunglasses
- A hat or cap
- Lightweight long-sleeve clothing for protection
4. Visit Archeological Sites and Cenotes
Take advantage of your visit to Cancun and discover:
- Cenotes such as Ik-Kil, Dos Ojos o Suytun
- Archaeological Sites such as Chichén Itzá, Tulum, or Cobá
These experiences connect nature and culture.
5. Be Cautious with Unofficial Tours
In Cancun, street vendors offering tours at very low prices are abundant. While some may be legitimate, others lack insurance, permits, or guarantees, which can ruin your experience. Book excursions with official agencies or through your hotel to ensure reliable transportation, certified guides, and protection in case of mishaps.
6. Explore the Hotel Zone and Downtown
Many tourists stay only in the Hotel Zone, but downtown Cancun offers:
- More affordable local restaurants
- Craft markets like Mercado 28
- Authentic local life
7. Check the Weather Before Your Trip
Although Cancun has a warm climate year-round, there can be sporadic rain or hurricane season (June to November). Check the weather forecast to pack better and plan activities.
8. Learn Basic Spanish Phrases
While many people speak English in tourist areas, saying “hello,” “thank you,” or “how much does it cost?” can open many doors and improve your experience with locals.
9. Bring Mexican Pesos
Many places accept dollars, but at an unfavorable exchange rate. Always carry some cash in Mexican pesos for taxis, tips, or small shops.
10. Plan with Balance: Relax and Explore
Cancun is ideal for relaxing on the beach, but also for discovering Mayan culture, ecological parks like Xcaret, Xel-Há, or Xplor, and trying Yucatecan cuisine. Mix it up!
